Welcome to the JunkYard Byrds gallery blog ...Glad you're here. The Junkyard features a few IMAGINARY byrds and the prototype BOTANICAL Curiosities Folio...created entirely from my photographs of JUNK. Hope you enjoy this digitally recycled Exhibition of PRINTS. I have included a random selection of 3D work as well as photographs of the Hornby Island Recycling Depot and Free Store.... As you will see, I use a lot of bikes (bicycles) in my work along with crows and ravens...they are a mainstay at the depot. thank you for visiting and for respecting my work.

It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education... Albert Einstein

once read...

"You must not know too much, or be too precise or scientific about birds and trees and flowers and water-craft; a certain free margin, and even vagueness - perhaps ignorance, credulity - helps your enjoyment of these things... My own notes have been written off-hand: Though they describe what I saw—what appear’d to me—I dare say the expert ornithologist, botanist or entomologist will detect more than one slip in them." Walt Whitman, Specimen Days

“Out of the choked Devonian waters emerged sight and sound and the music that rolls invisible through the composer's brain. They are there still in the ooze along the tideline, though no one notices. The world is fixed, we say: fish in the sea, birds in the air. But in the mangrove swamps by the Niger, fish climb trees and ogle uneasy naturalists who try unsuccessfully to chase them back to the water. There are things still coming ashore. ”

Loren Eiseley...The Immense Journey: An Imaginative Naturalist Explores the Mysteries of Man and Nature.

"I once saw, on a flower pot in my own living room, the efforts of a field mouse to build a remembered field. I have lived to see this episode repeated in a thousand guises, and since I have spent a large portion of my life in the shade of a nonexistent tree I think I am entitled to speak for the field mouse."
Loren Eiseley The Night Country

“The truth is, however, that there is nothing very “normal” about nature. Once upon a time there were no flowers at all.”
Loren Eiseley The Immense Journey: An Imaginative Naturalist Explores the Mysteries of Man and Nature.

Well, very long ago, on the spot where the Wild Wood waves now, before ever it had planted itself and grown up to what it now is, there was a city - a city of people, you know.

Animals arrived, liked the look of the place, took up their quarters, settled down, spread, and flourished. They didn't bother themselves about the past - they never do; they're too busy.

The Wild Wood is pretty well populated by now; with all the usual lot, good, bad, and indifferent - I name no names. It takes all sorts to make a world.
Kenneth Grahame The Wind in the Willows

When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race.
H.G. Wells

The Crow ~ I suppose he is the hardest lot that wears feathers. Yes, and the cheerfullest, and the best satisfied with himself. He never arrived at what he is by any careless process, or any sudden one; he is a work of art, and "art is long"; he is the product of immemorial ages, and deep calculation; one can't make a bird like that in a day.
Mark Twain - Following the Equator

Absurdity ~ There is no absurdity in theology so great that you cannot parallel it by a greater absurdity in Nature.

Thomas Henry Huxley (letter to Charles Kingsley May 5, 1863)

Grass
No child but must remember laying his head in the grass, staring into the infinitesimal forest and seeing it grow populous with fairy armies...
Robert Louis Stevenson

FIDDLE, n. An instrument to tickle human ears by friction of a horse's tail on the entrails of a cat
Ambrose Bierce (July 24, 1842 - January 11, 1914)

“Hippogriff, n. An animal (now extinct) which was half horse and half griffin. The griffin was itself a compound creature, half lion and half eagle. The hippogriff was actually, therefore, only one-quarter eagle, which is two dollars and fifty cents in gold. The study of zoology is full of surprises.”
Ambrose Bierce, The Devil’s Dictionary
