'At Peace with One's Ghosts' by the Paperboys with some familiar figures on the cover and, info on the upcoming Hornby Island Christmas Craft Fair 2014

The Paperboys will be using this image for the cover of their latest cd...'At Peace with One's Ghosts'... which is due for release by early December 2014. Time didn't allow for me to do the cd cover design, but I hope you will enjoy the combo...their fresh and saucy music and my digital art duo. I met Tom  Landa this past summer when he and his band Locarno played on Hornby at the Hornby Island Festival... must admit ...haven't heard this cd so 'fresh and saucy' may not be the most apt description. Let me know as soon as you hear it!

Getting wrapped up in Craft Fair prep...seems like every year presents new challenges and this year it will be setting up on the stage. The Hall should look very different next weekend as we all find new ways to display our wares, on the main floor and on stage! See you there!

Road Ode 1987...wonder where these went?

This is a table top I painted as part of a collection for the Thatch pub back in '87...not sure where they are now but just found this image on Bob's website, which is a great place to refresh your memories.
The odd writing reads:

 Ferry ends
road begins
ascends
bends...
turns and
wends
road crew
tends
patches of
pavement
stretches of
road. Hill
descends
at water
ends...
Reverse
ascends
hill
road of stretches
pavement
of patches.
Road
crew
tends
wends
and turns...
bends
descends
road ends
ferry
begins...again.

Mugs...a junkyard dog

Aside from the Ravens, Crows, Eagles and assorted other 'byrds' that make the Depot their home, other creatures are known to hang around. This hound has been spotted near the bike pile on several occasions. Maybe waiting for the riders to return and lead him a merry chase up the mountain trails. I call him Mugs as he is of such a generous and cheerful mien.

Sandalillia albiflorus gracilis...surreal little bulbs, tender anomalies

Surprising bulbs which poke their way up through the wreckage of winters argumentative prose...slightly defiant, dressed for a party which could be cancelled at any moment, albeit briefly, as it was yesterday during a hail spasm which rattled the very powder on their stamens...
Disturbed by lunar  ruminations, wandering in the garden of the lost and the found...
these  white faced blossoms  bathed in moonlight.

Lifting the lily bulbs...a tender procedure.

Found: old sketches, stretches and salal drum

I have kept notebooks off and on for many years...so, while I did not "find" these sketches at the recycling depot they are Recycled from my own debris cache...from the early '90s, revamped over 10 years ago and surfacing here, a few images from the notebook "The Steppe Beyond" -  background studies for a book of transformation tales that never quite morphed into print.

The bear...Old Man of the Woods...Grandfather was and is a haunting image from so many cultures...sketched here with one of my time keeping assemblages using bones and wood and copper.

Drumming...on and near the edge of magic. watching the games in Sochi brought these images to mind.

left over yule...or bath junk labels

Mia and I thought it would be a great idea, well, a cheap idea...well actually a quick cheap...anyway we got some stinky stuff together and made up some bombs and salts for people we actually do love and respect but gave these to them any way - the best part was making the labels!
Sand:  Orange, Anise, Cinnamon & Lemongrass
Sun:  Rosemary, Lemon, Orange & Anise
Coral:  Orange, Cinnamon, Ginger, Cardamom, Almond, Vanilla & Clove.

Hope you liked the rosemary and lemony bits stuck around your tubs.
We are pretty good at one offs so don't think these will show up again.

This is the year of the Voyageur...we are going to hit the road!

Docking the Voyageur
Make it so...my friends.

Found this little treasure, so trekkie, somewhat the worse for wear and not exactly road worthy, at the Depot this past winter and fell in love with its oxidized sparkle and altogether gallant aspect...I never know the back stories...the provenance, so choose to believe it was a fabulous little steed, traveled away the vast land and rested outside a fine bistro or two. For me it is a wishing bike. Based on the sacred geometry of the Voyageurs corroded spokes, and the maps hidden in the delicate craquelure, auspices are very positive for a roadtrip or two. VĂ¡monos a Voyageur.
